Google Maps Updated Imagery

Yay! Due to a recent update of Google Maps’ data, satellite imagery is now at par with what Google Earth has. What does this mean? We now have hi-resolution imagery of five cities in Mindanao! We can now spy on Cagayan de Oro, Davao City, Cotabato City, Butuan City, and Bislig City. More playing grounds for my other blog.
Plus, Leyte is now back on the map (it wasn’t before). But we seem to have a new island right in the middle of Bohol Sea. And some islands in Batanes are missing as is Taal Volcano, which was missing even before. Well, we can’t have everything.

Hope Metro Manila gets in soon, so I can have some LBS fun.
Re: Taal Lake—it looks wiped out manually. Intellectual property issues?

You’re not the only one waiting for Metro Manila. I know of at least one other person who’s waiting for hi-res Manila.
Re: Taal Lake. I doubt it. It seems to be map outline program going bonkers. Like that phantom island in the middle of Bohol Sea.

Hi, are there groups in the Philippines actually using googlemaps/tools for locally relevant purposes? We’d like to display our disease data over the maps so we can learn where the next epidemic is going to happen (maybe)…
