Build Your Campus in 3D Competition!

7:44 pm PHT

Google is having a contest for building the best school campus in 3D using Google SketchUp. The grand prize is an all-expense-paid trip to the Google Campus in Mountain View, CA. Too bad the contest is only open for residents of the U.S. and Canada.

But if the contest were international, it would be really interesting to join this one. Among the educational institutions in Metro Manila, I think only the Loyola Campus of the Ateneo de Manila and the Diliman campus of the University of the Philippines are worth doing to have any shot at winning. These campuses are the largest in the Metro. U.P. Diliman is a particularly good subject because of its layout surrounding the Academic Oval. Ateneo, on the other hand, has the majestic-looking Church of the Gesu, the modern Science Education Complex, and the Blue Eagle Gym.

I’m not sure a 3D rendering of the 5-hectare De la Salle University campus is impressive-looking enough to go against other entries. The 22-hectare University of Santo Tomas is a little too small but if the rendering of the Arch of the Centuries and the other centuries-old buildings were done beautifully, it may even beat other campuses. Miriam College, just beside ADMU, has larger campus than UST, but there isn’t any striking architecture there.

Outside the Metro, I think U.P. Los Baños and Silliman University in Dumaguete are the good targets to render.

Are there any other Filipino campuses that would be interesting to do in 3D?
