I just finished a short, but thought-provoking, piece of fiction God’s Debris: A Thought Experiment, which was written by Scott Adams, the Dilbert cartoonist, way back in 2001. The novel is a Socratic method discussion on who is God and why we are here. The first link above points to a page where you can download a free PDF format of the book.

The book raises many questions and attempts to answer it by introducing a new paradigm for our raison d’être. Adams has made it clear in the book’s introduction that he is in no way espousing a new religion or a new scientific theory (unlike L. Ron Hubbard). The book is simply to induce the reader to think and rethink many things he or she has learned in his or her life. The book points out many true scientific facts and also dishes out some DoMB disguised to sound realistic. Adams invites readers to tell which is which.

Many people like the book for what it is. Some are just die-hard Dilbert fanatics. Others say the book is crap and does not say anything new. Me, I personally find the book intriguing. It certainly did not change any of my core beliefs about the world, but it did made me think, which is the whole point of the book.
